Your Food is the Safest Medicine

November 4, 2018 Posted by admin

I love herbal medications. I love DIY healing. In my 20’s, I would pour over Western herbal books to ascertain what herb was good for what condition. That process provided an ineffable joy and feeling of empowerment, to take my own health into my hands. That was particularly important to me; my mother died when I was 21 and Western medicine had misdiagnosed her, that wasted time killed her.

Now, after 6 years of Chinese medical training and fairly extensive Western medical training, I still believe in DIY remedies and home remedies. However, having learned the extensively synergistic and complex way that Chinese herbal formulas work, I don’t think that it’s safe for the public to self diagnose all herbs.

On the other hand, food is much more safe, as remedy and can be deeply effective at getting the body to trend back toward health. Trendy food ideas aren’t my favorite, but I’m really glad that bone broth is popular now.
